The main decorative motif of the robe from collection of the National Museum in Krakow are orchid flowers (lanhua) and butterflies (hudie). In addition, the dress is sdorned with a trimming in the shape of ruyi sceptre. The Chinese valued the orchid flowers fot their subtle fragrance and elegance and associated them with concepts such as love, beauty and fertility as well as qualities of virtue and moral excellence.
Głównym motywem dekoracyjnym szaty ze zbiorów Muzeum Narodowego w Krakowie są kwiaty orchidei (lanhua) i motyle (hudie). Dodatkowo zdobi ją dekoracyjna lamówka w kształcie berełka ruyi. Chińczycy cenili kwiaty storczyka za ich subtelny zapach i elegancję. Łączyli je z takimi pojęciami, jak miłość, piękno i płodność oraz cechami cnoty i moralnej doskonałości.
History of the Object
The robe represents one of the two types of semi-official Manchu women's outfits. Both of them - changyi and chenyi - were long robes, fastened along the right side of the bodywith five button knots. The difference between the two garmentslay in the cut - changyi had slits on both sides of the body, providing greater freedom of movement.
Szata reprezentuje jeden z dwóch typów półoficjalnego ubioru kobiet narodowości mandżurskiej. Obydwa z nich – changyi i chenyi – były długie, zapinane wzdłuż prawej strony ciała na pięć guzów. Różnica między dwiema szatami polegała na kroju – changyi miała rozcięcia po obu stronach ciała, dające większą swobodę ruchu.
